Humanitarian demining of the territory of Ukraine through the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS<\/a>) may require 10-15 years where the mined area is between 132,000 to 300,000 km2<\/sup>. The cost for demining of this territory can be 400 to 900 billion US dollars. The UN allocates about 3 million dollars per square kilometer. The rest of the cost is expected to be covered by sponsors, in particular  the US is ready to allocate up to $89 million\/year, while the Ukrainian authorities are allocating $34.5 billion for the next 10 years. The main challenge is the rapid detection and decontamination of mines and explosive ordnance (EO). In order to reduce the risk, it is advisable to reduce the human factor and to robotize minefield reconnaissance. This task can be performed remotely by using UAV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our HDSL method allows reconnaissance not only on land but in rivers, lakes, and in the sea at depths up to 300 m, regardless of the type of mines and their mode of installation. The probability of locating the EO by HDSL is not less than 99%. Our disruptive innovative solution will make it possible to survey the maximum area of mined fields in water and on land for minimum amount of time and at fraction of the generally accepted cost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current commissioned techniques do not have such capabilities. The discovery\/decontamination of mines is a consequence and direct dependence on the success of a military operation and has direct effect on the civil society. Applying HDSL method is a guarantee for saving thousands of lives. These mines and explosive ordnance if not rapidly discovered and defused, will lead to alarming levels of humanitarian and environmental catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The unmanned multi-rotor HDSL complex in search mode flies along a predetermined trajectory, traversing the entire selected terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EO and mines searching experts are located in the control room of the HDSL complex where a programming unit and a station data receiver combines, processes, and analyzes the multiple layers of collected information. The control-commanding room can be located in a vehicle at a distance of several kilometers from the reconnaissance area to ensure the safety of the personnel.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Three different sets of collected data (radio waves, optical, and X-rays) covering the whole emitted energy spectrum of interest gives us enough information for the characteristics of the EO, like geometrical sizes and body shapes of the mines, the kinds of explosives used and some other features with high probability to detect mines, to identify their types, and to determine the spatial distribution in the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To protect the operators, the survey equipment is accommodated on board of an unmanned aircraft<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Depending on the topography of the surveyed area the complex can map and survey up to 1 km2<\/sup> per day if using one UAV but if using two aircraft simultaneously \u2013 up to 2 km2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Detection depth is up to 300m in water and 1.5 – 2m on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Resolution (minimum object size) is not less than 2-3cm;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. We are developing a training program for new certified UAV-operators of the HDSL complex with projected training duration of 3 months.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>
